Summer Food Drive with Move For Hunger

Fight Local Hunger: Join Our Canned Tuna & Seasonal Food Drives at Indigo

At Indigo at McLean Station, we are committed to looking beyond our own walls to make a meaningful, positive impact on Fairfax County. This summer, we are proud to announce an official partnership with Move For Hunger, a fantastic non-profit organization that mobilizes the relocation and housing industries to feed local families. We are launching a series of year-round food drives, and we need your help to make a difference starting this July!

July Spotlight: The Shark "Week" Canned Tuna Drive

To kick things off, the entire month of July is dedicated to our Shark "Week" Canned Tuna Drive. This targeted drive focuses on a high-demand protein source that local food pantries desperately need.

Why Is Canned Tuna in High Demand at Food Banks?

When families face food insecurity, shelf-stable, nutrient-dense options are the most vital resources available. Food banks constantly run low on canned tuna for several critical reasons:

  1. High-Quality Protein: Tuna is packed with lean protein and heart-healthy Omega-3 fatty acids.
  2. Long Shelf Life: It stays fresh for years, allowing food banks to distribute it as needed without the risk of spoilage.
  3. No Cooking Required: Because it is pre-cooked, it is immediately accessible to individuals who may have limited access to working kitchens or electricity.
  4. Versatility: It can easily be turned into a quick sandwich, tossed into a salad, or mixed into a hot casserole.

How to Participate in July

Participating couldn't be easier:

  • Step 1: Stop by the Indigo Leasing Office to pick up an official donation bag (or simply use one of your own reusable bags).
  • Step 2: Fill the bag with cans of tuna.
  • Step 3: Return the filled bag to the Leasing Office anytime during July.

At the end of the month, one of Move For Hunger's official transportation partners will pick up our entire community collection and deliver it directly to a local food bank in our area.

Year-Round Giving at Indigo at McLean Station

Hunger isn't seasonal, which is why our initiative doesn't stop when July ends.
Drop Off Non-Perishables Anytime: Residents are welcome to bring unopened, non-perishable food items to the leasing office at any time of the year. To ensure the safety of the volunteers and transport teams, please avoid glass containers and stick to aluminum cans, boxes, or plastic packaging. Once our collection bin fills up, we will schedule a custom pick-up with Move For Hunger.

Mark Your Calendars for Fall & Winter Drives:

  • September: Hunger Action Month Food Drive
  • November & December: Annual Holiday Food Drive

Every single can counts. Let's come together as a community this July and show the Tysons region the power of neighborly giving!
