Fighting Hunger Together
Food insecurity remains a major challenge across the United States, impacting over 44 million people nationwide. Right here in the DC Metro Area, thousands of families face the reality of missing meals every day. To step up and support our local community, Indigo at McLean Station is proud to announce our official partnership with Move For Hunger for our Hunger Action Month Food Drive, running throughout the entire month of September.
Move For Hunger is a brilliant non-profit organization that coordinates with the relocation and multifamily industry to turn food waste into life-saving donations. Rather than letting good food get left behind, their volunteer network picks up non-perishable goods and delivers them directly to neighborhood food banks.
How to Participate via Cobu
We have officially added this food drive as an event in our Cobu community app, making it easy for you to RSVP and remind yourself about the drive! Participating is incredibly simple:
- Grab your bag: Swing by the leasing office to pick up a collection bag, or simply use any bag or box you have at home.
- Fill it up: Gather unopened, non-perishable food items. Note: Please avoid glass containers, as they don't travel well and can break during transit.
- Drop it off: Return your filled bag to the leasing office by close of business (COB) on Wednesday, September 30th.
Once the drive concludes, a dedicated Move For Hunger pick-up partner will collect everything we gathered and transport it directly to a local food bank in the Northern Virginia area.
Items Food Banks Need the Most
To make the greatest possible impact, try to focus your donations on nutrient-dense items that local pantries consistently request:
- Proteins: Canned tuna, salmon, chicken, peanut butter, and dried beans.
- Canned Meals: Hearty soups, stews, chili, and canned pasta.
- Grains: Whole wheat pasta, brown rice, oatmeal, and low-sugar cereals.
- Fruits & Veggies: Canned vegetables (low sodium) and canned fruits (in 100% juice).
Let’s come together as a community this month to help fill the shelves of our local food pantries!
